North Stars Outgun King Miners in Final Frame to Capture Cup

Four third period goals by the Norway House North Stars sunk the Thompson King Miners' hopes of capturing the Prince-Berscheid Cup in the A final of the 20th-annual Prince-Berscheid peewee hockey tournament Jan.6-8 in Thompson.

Norway House went ahead 3-2 with just over 12 minutes left in the final, retaking the lead just eight seconds after the King Miners got their second of the game to even the score. The North Stars established the first two-goal lead of the game less than three minutes later, then went up by three after scoring on a rebound while enjoying a two-man advantage with 2:55 to play. The King Miners scored 41 seconds later to make it a 5-3 game, but Norway House got one more goal on a deflected slapslot to take the cup with a 6-3 victory.

Norway House was perfect through the round robin, beating the King Miners 8-1, the Flin Flon Bombers 8-0 and the Split Lake Eagles 22-0.

The Peewee A Norway House North Stars outscored the Thompson King Miners 4-2 in the last 20 minutes to win the Prince-Berscheid Cup in Thompson on Jan. 8.
